Movie Review: Charly

Running Time: 1 hour, 43 minutes
Rating: PG
B Nice's Grade:

Sam Roberts thinks he has all the answers: the purpose of life, the meaning of love, the plan for the perfect future. Until Charly walks into his life. As opposite as New York and Salt Lake, Charly and Sam are thrown together by circumstance and repelled by differences. She's open and mischievous. He's guarded and practical. Opposites attract, however, and soon Charly finds depth in Sam's idealism while Sam seeks Charly's vibrancy. But not all is smooth in the Rockies as their relationship accelerates and their cultural differences, family situations and former loves begin to really shake things up for the pair.

This movie is indeed a must see. I enjoyed this movie well basically cuz its taught me alot about dating and not always finding the ideal partner in your life. I love how in the beginning Sam is this collared shirt wearing, hair combed to the side, planner taking, organized guy from Utah, very typical looking, nothing really exciting about him. Then here comes Charly, from New York, totally opposite from him, lives with her boyfriend, is not a member of the church and her beliefs and morals are way different than Sams. The beginning was okay, you just have to sit through it and see how their relationship develops, and its really cute.

Things get rough towards the mid-part of the movie, feelings get intense and decisions need to be made if they are willing to continue with the relationship or just let it go all together. Sam has influenced Charly in so many good ways spiritually and mentally. Her life has changed since she's been hangin out with Sam, reading the Book of Mormon and praying. She has experienced a change of heart which is great!

Her parents get involved seeing the change in Charly's life and try to destroy her new found love for Sam by bringin her old boyfriend to Utah to her Art Exhibition knowin that Sam is there...Well words were exchanged and Sam leaves her...Charly packs it up and returns to New York.

Sam goes home and plays basketball to let out some frustration and his mother asks him what happened? He said that he didn't know what type of person Charly was, that she was too different from his ways and his mother told him that she didn't know about the church or anything when she came. Now all she sees is a new young woman who has changed her life and is trying to live a good life. His mother asked him if his feelings for her have changed and he said NO. So after speaking with his mother, he takes off, doesn't change his clothes and off to New York he goes to apologize and try to win her back. He gets there and its too late, she refuses to see him and he tries to sneak up to her apartment but nothing she is very hurt by him. So he returns home to Utah.

Later he sends her a letter saying something like if there is a way we could be together again please meet me at the Ferris Wheel, which is where they went on her first day in Utah. So time goes on and she eventually meets him there and they are reunited. Later on, they are married with a child and they attend church and are happily married.

A few years later, they find out that she has cancer and will die...Sam is so upset and doesn't know why, he doesn't want to accept that she will die and says that all his life he's done what he was suppose to od and if thy have faith she will be healed. He broke down in the room and threw things all over the place and Charly comforts him and tells him she will be okay...It was a real tear jerker..So sad how Sam would not accept his wifes illness...

Its true with faith and prayer miracles can happen, but the LORD is an all knowing LORD. He brings trials and challenges in our lives to make us stronger and to move on in life. Sam was definitely stronger after this experience! I learned that with relationships, you're not always gonna find that perfect, ideal mate...its not always gonna be in your favor.

I've learned that if an individual has had a crazy, and a not so respectful past, its okay so long as that individual has come clean and has taken care of that past and moved on with a clean PRESENT LIFE!! For myself, I've always tried to keep a clean reputation, carry myself with Respect and act as a young lady should act in manner, speech and character! I always told myself,..Self, you are going to find someone who is just like you, a good past, is respectful in everything...but I've learned that not everyone has a background like mines, and I'm not saying that I'm perfect, cuz I'm so not, but I've decided that its the present that matters most and how we are living NOW that matters. The past is the past and the present is where we're at right now...So after all those years of searching for that ideal companion, I have learned to look for the good in young men..notice the word young...eh....just kidding and find a worthy companion...At this ripe age that I'm at, I'm not worried nor rushing to find that mate, but I do know this, when it happens, it was suppose to happen at that given time...

That is my review and insight on the movie. Thanks to my friends and relatives who have introduced this movie to me. I recommend others to watch it as well.
